EV ownership guide
What to check in a used EV battery
Battery condition matters, but a useful review goes beyond one dashboard range number.
Start with the vehicle, not a generic estimate
Displayed range changes with charge level, temperature, recent driving, speed, climate use, wheels, tires, and software estimates. Compare the specific vehicle's behavior with its configuration and age rather than treating one displayed number as a complete battery test.
Review the information that is available
Confirm the model year, trim, mileage, charging behavior, warning messages, and remaining battery and drive-unit warranty. Service records, inspection findings, and battery-health information can add context when they are available. A test drive and charging test can also reveal practical issues that a listing cannot show.
Plan for real Texas driving
Heat, highway speeds, air conditioning, elevation, towing, and charging habits affect usable range. Think about your longest regular trip, home or workplace charging, and the fast-charging network on your route. Longhorn EV can help explain the available information for a vehicle, but range always varies with use and conditions.
